Each year the AYA sponsors an essay contest for youth to develop and express their skills and love of the Appaloosa breed in written format.

Essays are accepted each year between January 1 and May 1 for the two age divisions (13 and Under & 14-18).

2016 Essay Topics

13 & Under (400-800 words): What makes my Appaloosa special?

14-18 (800-1200 words): Describe what the phrase "Appaloosa: as unique as you are" means to you

The following will be awarded in their respective categories:

Youth, 13 & Under

1st Place: $100.00, a year’s subscription to the Appaloosa Journal, essay printed in an issue of the Appaloosa Journal

2nd Place: $75.00

3rd Place: $50.00

Youth, 14-18

1st Place: $100.00, a year’s subscription to the Appaloosa Journal, essay printed in an issue of the Appaloosa Journal

2nd Place: $75.00
